etc etc. searched this site cant find it. its not cavemans dream. anyone
any ideas??? oh how the camel loved ali baba oooooohhhhh!!!!!!
I
think you mean "Ungawa." It's actually "ape man fall
for ape girl." I don't have it on the site in MP3, but you
can find a crappy real audio version of it at http://neilinnes.org/songs3.htm
or get a good version of it from NISA.

songs Neil said were mere demos...he had been afraid to hear them again

this one, my favorite on the album. I love it when they all go, "Ooooo-ooo-ooo-oooo!"

I have fond memories of this piece as one

Excellent, thank you so much for Cat Meat, Ta-Ta, Nancy, and others. This blog rocks, keep up the great work. Also, I see Neil is touring at least as far west in the US as Chicago.. might I suggest he has lots of underrepresented fans in the american northwest. Please come 'round, we'll show you an excellent time.
Thanks again,

Unfortunately I dont know the name of the
song, but it was an IBOR track as I recall. I`m going back to the original
run on UK tv which was years ago..... Neil, I think was playing piano
on or near a clifftop... any ideas what this may be ?? xxxx
There
is nothing in Innes Book that I know of that has Neil playing a piano
on or near a clifftop, but there are scenes with ocean and cliffs and
the opening credits, IBOR theme, has Neil playing the piano in a house
on a cliff. Other possibilities might be L'Amour Perdu, Plenty of Time,
Rock Of Ages.

This song started it all. My brother heard it

when the song would be charted, we did not know it was from 3 years back.
Later we found out the group was called Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. From then

Version: All You
Need Is Cash
I saw a copy of All You Need Is Cash on video
in a bargain baskets a few years ago for a mere £3 (!) and I must admit
I had never heard of The Rutles before, but, being a Python fan Eric Idle's
and Neil Innes' names caught my attention then, being (as most people
I guess) a Beatles fan, the "Hard Day's Night" pastiche sleeve only added
to my curiosity.. So I bought it.. and have shown the video to all my
friends since and everybody obviously loved it. But then again it isn't
just funny.. it is musically damn clever too!! So I bought the album on
CD and haven't stopped listening to it since (though not 24hrs a day and
not 365 days a year either :D). So congratulations and many thanks for
the fantastic times I have had and am still having listening to The Rutles!
As for "Another Day"... What a gorgeous song!!! Lovely piano, excellent
strings, brilliant lyrics.. just perfect! I could also mention Double-Back
Alley, fantastic pastiche of Penny Lane which is a gorgeous song in its
own right as well and many others! When is Neil playing in Canterbury????
If all the venues are overbooked, I'll happily turn my house into a concert
hall :D

Song:
Nancy
Version: Joe Public
\ Any Other Version Available
If there's one Neil Innes song which I find
almost both as funny and somewhat as philosophical as "How Sweet to be
an Idion", it would have to be "Nancy". The version I heard was from Joe
Public. I do not know if there are any other versions. Apart from the
hilarious concept, the very amusing lyrics and Neil innes' wonderfuly
amusing, and yet, in a patially serious, way of presenting it, I can remember
an absolutely wonderful "musical ad-lib"... well, at lease, I think that's
what it was... - I can remember Neil Innes suddenly stopping the song,
right near the end, and then there was a huge sound of laughter from the
audience, and after that, when he continued, he said "Where is he going"
instead of "Where am I going" - which from the context, and from the other
pause due to the laughter of the audience indicated, at least in my mind,
that he was reacting to a person who was leaving in the middle of his
song... . Then again, I might be wrong. In any event, I really love that
song, and I would love even more to have it on mp3.
This
is the only version that I know of in existance, recorded from the audience
at Joe Public. I wish we had a better recording of it!

A
note from the management... I can't find my RWT or RVB CDs, so I can't fulfill
these requests until I do! Sorry!

Song: 9-5 Pollution Blues

I absolutely worship the guitar riff in this version
of the song. It's the perhaps one of the top ten songs ever made (or at
least that I've ever heard). It is so soothing and yet so sad and yet
so exhilirating all at once. Mind you, the IBoR version is rather fun
too. Fun, yes. But it's not half as powerful as the Bonzo version. Do
try to hear this song. It's absolutely amazing.

Song: Shangri-la
Version: Taking Off
I don't know what is about this song, but I'm just obsessed with
it. I don't like the Archeology (sp?)as much; I felt it was too "Rutleized"
(I love the Rutles, but Shangri-la is so good it doesn't need to be changed).
And there's something about the first bit: "Did you ever get the feeling
that the truth is less revealing than a downright lie?" that I abosolutely
love. Everyone must listen to this song.

Helen O The
Kords from Adelaide Song: Re-cycled Vinyl
Blue Version: Album version I guess! Are there
others?
I have to admit, I was always on
the "wrong" track with this one! When I first heard it, and for a long
time, I'd always interpreted the song as being a bit of a dig at the way
music IS so recycled these days! I thought, what with the way music is
excessively sampled and borrowed and just altered slightly, and next thing
it's an apparent "new hit". I suppose my dissillusion with a lot of todays
music has led to that....but it would make sense - even perhaps a
suggestion that there seems to be no new ideas in music anymore, just
recycled stuff, and hence the joke that other music keeps popping through
the new song written. Okay, under this interpretation, some lines (like
the copper, uranium and zinc one) aren't neccesarily consistent with that,
but hey, you know what it's like when you start seeing a song a certain
way! Then someone told me that no, it really DID refer to a situation
where there was genuinely a need for the recycling of vinyl, etc.
Hey, I've never really lived through any shortages or
rationing! Anyway, you do have to admit though, that there's
so much recycled music these days! (Mind you - it's getting harder to
explain to my younger friends what the reference to "vinyl" is too these
days - scary!)

THE SONG THAT IS TOO SAUCEY
FOR NEIL! I fall down larfing every time I hear/see it! It's a VERY funny
song,in that it achieves two things: 1)Parodies poet Rod McKuen
beautifully! 2)Exposes Rod McKuen for the dirty old man he is,
beautifully! ( It's also a nice parody of "Shakin' All Over" )
Unfortunately.....Neil doesn't sing it,Eric does. OOOPS. Er...nevermind. (
Maybe it's Eric's saucey little dance,that rattles Neil? )

Morning Train Version: Innes Book Of Records (TV show)
My favourite Neil song that remains unavailable on

account of a man's unrequited love for a fellow commuter. An absolute
gem!

The Family
Jules from Cool Britannia
Song:
Plenty of
Time Version: Sleepers/GRIMMS
You want an artfully constructed pop song? Well you got it here -
Plenty of Time goes through a series of changes, rhythms and sections as
effortlessly as any Brian Wilson mini symphony for the kids. You want
classy production? Check out that hypnotic keyboard sounding out the
chords and those ethereal back up vocals. Best of all you want a melody to
die for? This has to be one of Neil's best. It soars, it dives, the change
to the minor chords almost brings a tear to the eye. And that superbly
crafted lyric about time passing is the icing on the cake. Melancholy and
spiritually uplifting at the same time. The only crime is that this song
was buried away at the end of the last GRIMMS LP. It deserved a much wider
audience. Masterpiece!

Thomas from Hawthorne Song: Quiet Talks & Summer Walks Version:
IBOR
I think this song has the MOST
beautiful melodies of any of Neil's songs - but I wonder what was going on
in his head to want to sing it for this video in the daisy costume, while
motionless? was this anyone's FIRST introduction to the song? Although I
think I am prone to likeing the BDB version better, lately I simply cant
get enough of this version of the song - it's so.... odd??? doncha think?
(AND YES I JUST FREAKED SEEING THE FIRST ENTRY HERE FOR SAME SONG, AND
MENTION OF BEAUTIFUL MELODY - and YES, the ULTIMATE bittersweet bite of
reality in that line about "looking in her eyes!")

The Family
Jules from Indoors Song: Quiet Talks and Summer
Walks Version: Keynsham/Bonzo Dog Band
Quite possibly the most beautiful melody of the 20th Century. Quite
possibly the most beautiful poetry from a flower's viewpoint ever. And
aren't the lines "She wants to know if he will love her till the end of
time/but how can he know the future when he's looking in her eyes" an
absolutely stunning distillation of two viewpoints on the nature of love,
both as valid and heartfelt in their own way? The flute is magical, the
upbeat middle section is almost giddy. This is as perfect as pop songs
ever get, folks.

Roxy641 from London, UK Song: Slaves of Freedom Version: Album
I love this song. First heard it in Liverpool at a Neil concert
around the time of the Annual Beatles Convention. "...Where no one gets
off their bike, We are the slaves of Freedom..."

Paige from New Jersey Song: When Does A Dream
This was my first taste of Neil aside from The Holy Grail and while
I was confused at first as it was a serious song appearing on Flying
Circus, the tune was absolutely infectious. Fantastic old fashioned corny
love song with tap dancing.

Nobbie from UK Song: carry on melissa
I
know two girls called melissa, so this song is never far from my mind but
it disturbs me. How would anyone know how much a poodle would struggle
being stuffed into a suitcase unless they tried it? I think 'you squeal
like a cat being booted through it's flap' would rest easier with me,but
it would ruin the song.

Andrew

Neil's unique insight into the human condition.
Something to aspire to in this modern world of organised chaos that we now
live in. "But what shape is Harmony? How wide the space 'tween you and
me?" "Time for each other, time to discover That we got a lot in common
But it just takes time " 'Nuff said!

Keswick gig, helped me alot at the time. Love it.

Laurie from City of the Angels Song: Major Happy's Up And Coming Once
Upon A Good Time Band/Rendezvous/Questionnaire Version:
Archaeology
I just love this
album. Love love love love love it. Clever, thoughtful, there is nothing
at all I would change. Major Happy is such a great opening number. And
Rendezvous, damn, do you spend the time like me, wishing that you could be
free, free from all you have to do, doing only what you want to? And then
on into Questionnaire, what a fabulous song. I could go on all day about
Archaeology, I think it is the best album ever recorded,
honestly.

Bonnie from Los Angeles Song: The Time
Is Now Version: East of the Moon
This is at least in my top five... it's floaty and airy and dreamy
and beautiful. And I think Neil's right; forever more, the time is now.
There really is nothing but an eternal now. I love this song!
