"There
was Drury Lane in '74, and then City Center in '76. And
then somewhere in the middle of all that, Cleesie had left,
and I wrote some stuff with Graham. Everyone thought, well,
you know, Graham's got no one to write with, so I wrote
some stuff with Graham. I did actually write 'The Appeal
On Behalf Of The Very Rich'. I wrote that myself and brought that in. And then
with Graham, we started the idea of the awful family, and
Gilliam being covered in baked beans and whatnot. And others
contributed to it as well. Lines like, 'Dad, why is Rhodesia
called Rhodesia?' I think that was Palin. But the other
bits, 'When are you coming home?' '3 AM!' The most awful
family in the world. I think we pre-empted Jerry Springer
with that sketch."
